In the Bihar Board Matric and Inter exams, about half of the marks in a paper come from objective (multiple choice) questions. They are also the quickest marks to lose — one wrong circle on the OMR sheet or a rushed guess costs as much as a long answer. These tips will help you secure the full objective section.
1. Understand how the objective section works
You usually get twice as many MCQs as you need to answer — for example, attempt any 50 out of 100. Each question has four options and one correct answer, and you mark it on an OMR sheet. Because you have a choice, the real skill is picking the questions you are sure about.
2. Use the reading time well
Bihar Board gives extra time at the start to read the paper. Use it to go through the objective questions and mentally mark the ones you know for certain. Do not start filling the OMR sheet in a hurry.
3. Answer in three rounds
- Round 1 — sure answers. Go through all questions and answer only those you are 100% sure of.
- Round 2 — think it through. Come back to the ones you can solve by working, eliminating wrong options or recalling the chapter.
- Round 3 — count and stop. Once you have answered the required number, stop. Answering extra questions does not add marks and only wastes time you need for the subjective part.
4. Fill the OMR sheet carefully
- Use only the pen mentioned in the instructions and darken the circle completely.
- Never overwrite, cut or use whitener — a changed circle may not be read correctly.
- Check that the question number on the OMR sheet matches the question you are answering, especially after you skip one.
- Fill your roll number, subject code and other details exactly as instructed before you start answering.
5. Eliminate options instead of guessing
If you are unsure, cross out the options that are clearly wrong. With two options left, recall the textbook line or formula behind the question. In Maths and Physics, work it out on rough paper — never pick an answer just because it “looks right”.
6. Practise the way you will be tested
- Chapter-wise tests after you finish each chapter — they show your weak topics early.
- Previous year papers to learn the question pattern; many topics are asked year after year. See our Bihar Board previous year papers.
- Timed model papers in the last month, so finishing on time becomes a habit.
7. Subject-wise quick tips
| Subject | What objective questions usually test |
|---|---|
| Mathematics | Formulas, quick calculations and standard results from each chapter |
| Science / Physics / Chemistry | Units, formulas, chemical equations, reactions and definitions |
| Biology | Terms, functions of organs, diagrams and processes |
| Social Science / Arts subjects | Dates, events, places, people and key terms |
| Hindi, English, Sanskrit | Author of each chapter, theme of the lesson and grammar rules |
| Commerce subjects | Definitions, principles, journal entries and ratios |
Final checklist for exam day
- Read every question fully — words like “not” and “incorrect” change the answer.
- Answer exactly the number of questions asked.
- Keep the last few minutes to check the OMR sheet once.
Exam rules can change from year to year. Always follow the instructions printed on your question paper and OMR sheet, and the latest notices from BSEB.
